We have a long held reputation for exceptional dining standards built on the finest of ingredients, a talented and committed team of chefs and the personal approval of The Earl and Countess of Derby. You can expect beautifully presented food, faultlessly prepared and courteously served.
We use only the very finest of ingredients, where possible, locally sourced – in particular from the Knowsley Estate. Complemented by wines from the Earl of Derby’s wine cellar.
Our new Head Chef, Steven Owen moved to Liverpool in January 2014 to undertake the role of Senior Sous chef at the Monro to gain experience working within a high volume restaurant, serving quality, fresh, local, seasonal produce. In April 2014 he was promoted to Head chef. The restaurant averages 200 covers per shift, at the weekend. As well as the restaurant they also cater for private functions and weddings, on a regular basis. The Monro was recently featured within the times top 50, summer gastro pubs.
In November 2011 he became a Senior Sous chef at the newly opened Bull & Heifer pub & restaurant, in Bettws Cedewain. Which lead to a promotion of Head chef in February 2012. This is owned and managed by Bettws Hall, one of the UK leading shooting estates.
His aim whenever possible was to source seasonal produce, located from local farmers and fish & game from across the shooting estates. This proved popular with costumers and it also ensured he supported the local community. Throughout his duration at the Bull & Heifer, he was also responsible for catering for shoot parties, when several of the shooting estates were shooting on the same day.
Due to popular demand the restaurant was expanded in November 2012. Leading from the success of the restaurant, he was nominated for National Apprentice of the Year 2012 and was awarded the overall winner of this prestigious award.
